Erik came to the US with his family when he was young.
He is married to a US Citizen, but did not marry to gain legal status (and has chosen to remain a legal resident alien despite being married). He came to the US the old fashioned way, his family filed the proper paperwork, waited to travel when approved, and he earned his status.
